Harbor Light

“Harbor Light” documents the final three lighthouses on the Northern Pacific coast still maintained by resident keepers rather than automated systems, filmed over fourteen months across four keeper households. The production deliberately avoided interview lighting setups, shooting keepers in the light and weather each location actually had — meaning long stretches of fog-diffused daylight, single-bulb interiors, and the intense, narrow-beam sweep of the lighthouse lamps themselves after dark.

Editorially, the film is built around the keepers’ own logbooks, read in voiceover against footage shot to match the entries as closely as weather and scheduling allowed. The color grade preserves the flat, low-contrast character of coastal fog rather than punching it up, on the reasoning that the keepers’ isolation is itself the film’s subject.

“Harbor Light” is Loupe’s first feature documentary and the studio’s first project to secure festival distribution before principal photography wrapped.
